Michael, his wife and three children applied to leave Germany in 1736 and again in 1737 according to published passenger & immigration sources. Mrs. Rena Grace Puls was born in Flora, Clay County, Illinois, on April 6, 1871 and passed to the great beyond from Downing, in Schuyler County, Missouri, on March 27, 1933, at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 21 days.
While she was still an infant, in October 1871, the family moved to Milport, Knox County, Missouri, where she lived with the family about eleven years. Then the family moved to Scotland County near Rutledge, Missouri where she made her home for forty-six years. In 1928 she moved with her husband to Downing in Schuyler County, Missouri where she lived the remaining days of her life.
At the age of eleven she united with the Christian Church in Milport, Missouri and was baptized upon her public confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. In about 1920 she transferred her membership to the Christian church at Rutledge where she remained a member to the end.
October October 3, 1891, she was united in marriage with Robert Thomas Cunningham [his true name Thomas Robert Cunningham], with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life for over forty-one years. To this union three children were born, one of whom passed away in infancy.
Sister Cunningham has always had poor health. But she was able to do regular duties until nearly six week ago. She then became bedfast with a complication of diseases. During her afflictions she suffered much pain and discomfort, but bore all her trials with great patience and fortitude. She was especially considerate of others, and appreciative of all the kindness shown her. The husband and daughters were spareless in their sacrifices and tireless in their kind services of tender love, constantly attending to all her wishes and striving to speed her recovery. The best aid of trained and skillful physicians was employed to relieve her pain and restore her health. But in spite of all that human hands could do, the end came peacefully on Monday March 27, at 12:40 p.m.
She is preceded by one infant daughter and two infant brothers. She is survived by her faithful husband of Downing; two daughters, Fern, (Mrs. Cleve Myers) of near Memphis, and Dorothy, (Mrs. Eugene Poe ) of Downing; two grandsons, Inual Andrew Myers and Robert Edgar Poe; four brothers and three sisters, namely: Mrs. Docie Matlick of Memphis, Mo., Pierce Puls of Clarkson, Wash., Everett Puls of Gilman City, Mo., Mrs. Madie Wagner and Perl Puls, both of Bethany, Mo. and Mrs. Cora Nighthart of Bethany, Mo., Besides these immediate relatives, a host of relatives and friends survive to mourn her departure.
Funeral services were in charge of Rev. H.J. Schrag of Memphis, and were held on Wednesday, March 29, at 2 o'clock from the late home, and at 2:30 from the Christian church in Downing. Interment was made in the Downing cemetery. She was borne to her final resting place by the following pallbearers: Alva Moffett, J Myers, Lloyd Myers, Claude Barb, Dave Gardner, and J. V. Riley
The death certificate for Rena Grace Cunningham indicates she died at age 61 years 11 months and 21 days due to gastric influenza with a contributory factor as hepatic tumor. The certificate is signed by J P Bondarant, MD.

Notes for DOROTHY ELIZABETH CUNNINGHAM:
Dorothy was a tiny baby at birth, a little over two or three pounds. Her twin sister died at birth. She and her older sister both related the story that she was so tiny she fit in a shoe box where her parents placed her for cuddly warmth as a newborn. Her given middle birth name was Ennis which she changed to Elizabeth later in her life. Her older sister, Fern, was fifteen years old at the time of Dorothy's birth and was like a second mother to her, their close relationship continuing throughout their lives.
The family home was in a large house near Rutledge, Missouri. Her father was a farmer. Dorothy attended grade school in Rutledge and in her teen years lived with a family in Memphis, Missouri while she attended high school. Though only completing her sophomore year, she acquired many friends in the Memphis area.
Dorothy was 19 when she and Eugene Poe were married. Early pictures indicate she was a small well-dressed young woman with a beautiful complexion.
She was a dedicated mother and homemaker and loved her family. She was always ready to help in any way and spent many hours with her grandchildren caring for them as well as teaching them many things. She loved tending her vegetable and flower gardens. She was an excellent cook and delighted in preparing meals for family and friends. One of her specialties was her variety of Christmas candies made every year and her tall dinner rolls she made for holidays and special occasions. She was active in her church as well as the Rebekah Lodge, attaining her 50 year membership status.
In 1956, at age 51, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy and radiation. She recovered fully and continued in relatively good health the rest of her life except for the discomfort of swelling in her upper arm due to the removal of underarm lymph nodes at the time of the breast cancer surgery.
The following is her published obituary: Dorothy Elizabeth Cunningham Poe,
