Mrs. Rena Grace Puls was born in Flora, Clay County, Illinois, on April 6, 1871
and passed to the great beyond from Downing, in Schuyler County, Missouri, on
March 27, 1933, at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 21 days.

home for forty-six years. In 1928 she moved with her husband to Downing in Schuyler
County, Missouri where she lived the remaining days of her life.
At the age of eleven she united with the Christian Church in Milport, Missouri
and was baptized upon her public confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her
Lord and Savior. In about 1920 she transferred her membership to the Christian
church at Rutledge where she remained a member to the end.

sorrows of life for over forty-one years. To this union three children were

duties until nearly six week ago. She then became bedfast with a complication
of diseases. During her afflictions she suffered much pain and discomfort, but
bore all her trials with great patience and fortitude. She was especially considerate
of others, and appreciative of all the kindness shown her. The husband and daughters
were spareless in their sacrifices and tireless in their kind services of tender
love, constantly attending to all her wishes and striving to speed her recovery.
The best aid of trained and skillful physicians was employed to relieve her
pain and restore her health. But in spite of all that human hands could do,
the end came peacefully on Monday March 27, at 12:40 p.m.

born in Missouri, his parents in Indiana; his wife, Rena, age 59, she and her
father born in Illinois, her mother in Missouri. The census reports they were
both twenty-one years of age at the time of their marriage; were renting their
property for $150 per month; and they owned a radio.
A Warranty Deed dated December 10, 1930, is recorded in Book 71 at page 274,
Schuyler County Recorder, between Edgar Smith, Grantor, and Thomas and Rena
Cunningham, Grantees, for the purchase price of $800 for the following described
real estate: All of the Southwest one half of Block 1 of the G. A. Lewis addition
to Downing, Missouri, said Southwest one half meaning only that part of said
block 1 lying Southwest of a line 140 feet Northeast and running parallel with
the public road. Receipts found in family keepsakes indicate the county taxes
for 1930 were $13.82 and the city taxes were $4.55.
This property was on the east edge of Downing, Missouri at the location where

30, 1935, Eugene and Dorothy Poe were granted a Trustee's Deed for the property
and it was later sold after Tom's death in 1939.
At the time of this writing (2003) a small convenience store is located on the

Cleve Myers Funeral Today; Was in Boat Mishap. Grover Cleveland Myers, age seventy-six,
was drowned Monday at about 12:45 p.m. in a farm pond located about seven miles
south and east of Memphis. His body was recovered about an hour later. Mr. Myers,

on the pond when Mr. Myers' boat overtured and he fell into the water. His son,

Notes for DOROTHY ELIZABETH CUNNINGHAM:
Dorothy was a tiny baby at birth, a little over two or three pounds. Her twin
sister died at birth. She and her older sister both related the story that she
was so tiny she fit in a shoe box where her parents placed her for cuddly warmth
as a newborn. Her given middle birth name was Ennis which she changed to Elizabeth
later in her life. Her older sister, Fern, was fifteen years old at the time
of Dorothy's birth and was like a second mother to her, their close relationship
continuing throughout their lives.
The family home was in a large house near Rutledge, Missouri. Her father was
a farmer. Dorothy attended grade school in Rutledge and in her teen years lived
with a family in Memphis, Missouri while she attended high school. Though only
completing her sophomore year, she acquired many friends in the Memphis area.
Dorothy was 19 when she and Eugene Poe were married. Early pictures indicate
she was a small well-dressed young woman with a beautiful complexion.
She was a dedicated mother and homemaker and loved her family. She was always
ready to help in any way and spent many hours with her grandchildren caring
for them as well as teaching them many things. She loved tending her vegetable
and flower gardens. She was an excellent cook and delighted in preparing meals
for family and friends. One of her specialties was her variety of Christmas
candies made every year and her tall dinner rolls she made for holidays and
special occasions. She was active in her church as well as the Rebekah Lodge,
attaining her 50 year membership status.
In 1956, at age 51, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy
and radiation. She recovered fully and continued in relatively good health the
rest of her life except for the discomfort of swelling in her upper arm due
to the removal of underarm lymph nodes at the time of the breast cancer surgery.
The following is her published obituary: Dorothy Elizabeth Cunningham Poe,
